Welcome to Blooming Echo:
Center for Eco-Cultural Regeneration and Resilience
Blooming Echo is a 70 acre land project in the Santa Cruz Mountains committed to cultural regeneration and resilience.
Blooming Echo is our creative, love drenched response to our modern predicament, as well as our eternal commitment to beauty.
From climate change to political polarization, from social isolation and late stage capitalism burn-out to massive global resource extraction, pollution and species extinction, from over-technological “solutions” to a crisis in misinformation and meaning making, we are swamped and isolated in our daily hussle. How to change a system we play a part in?
Our response lies in the ground, in caring for our waters and forests, in regrowing our seeds and rituals, and in doing it ourselves, together, with our very own hands.
Through Blooming Echo we put into action our love, dedicated service and contribution to the world by engaging with our ecosystems at the same time as restoring our relationship to each other.
About the Land
Blooming Echo isn’t marked by epic vistas, faraway mountains or rushing rivers. Loggers have been through here four or five times over the past 200 years. Yet as with most deep and beautiful things, she reveals herself through time, and we can already see, she is willing to heal with us.
We're partnering with the land to bring out her fullest expression of beauty and essence, while allowing her to grow us and our capacity, in return.
This is regular land becoming extraordinary through love and care; an exploration of how to become a people from a place again - how to tend to where we live, inside all the messy and traumatic histories, growing hope and a future worth belonging to. This way the land heals and evolves us as we heal and evolve the land, rehydrating our indigenous ways as humans of Earth, and learning to love a place into its full expression.
What Happens Here
Skill Building, Land Stewarding, and Climate Resilience
Through reintroduction of fire, brush clearing, selective thinning of the forest, water retention techniques like check dams, food forests, mushroom cultivation and remediation, we regenerate the land while letting the land regenerate our culture.
Farming, Feasting and Seasonal Rituals
Every year at Blooming Echo we are plant rare heirloom seeds, focusing on beautiful corn, beans and squash varieties. These seeds are capable of feeding entire villages and are able to respond to a changing climate season after season.
Art, Beauty and Music
What really makes life worth living?
What endures throughout time?
Art, beauty and music.
These are cornerstone values here at Blooming Echo.
Blooming Echo can be thought of as an “earth arts” school.
